OUR STORY
I am Amanda Rosso, and I am an Occupational Therapist who believes that healing the body from mental, physical and emotional trauma is a multi-layered process that begins with developing a deeper connection to oneself.
I received my Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Master of Science in Occupational Therapy from Stockton University in NJ. During my final clinical internships, I was able to observe the treatment of Lymphatic Disorders in the Cancer population at Virtua Health System and immediately developed a strong connection and desire to work with these individuals. I decided to pursue further training in the Management of Lymphatic Disorders and completed “Complete Decongestive Therapy Certification” from The Norton School of Lymphatic Studies, then specialty training in “Breast Cancer Rehabilitation” (Klose Academy of Lymphatic Studies), followed by “Management of Head and Neck Lymphedema” and “Kinesio Taping for Lymphedema” from (ACOLS- Academy of Lymphatic Studies). Soon after receiving the initial Lymphedema management certification, I began working at VIrtua Health System in the Outpatient and Inpatient Rehabilitation departments. I provided both traditional Inpatient and Outpatient Occupational Therapy and Specialized Lymphedema Therapy s services across all hospitals and major rehabilitation offices. During that time, I worked with Interprofessional teams to cultivate the best evidence- based and client centered programs and protocols for individuals within Virtua Health's Cancer Treatment program. I was also able to work with hundreds of patients with Upper Extremity Orthopedic Issues, Neurological Disorders and Vascular disease of the Lower Extremities.
I was fortunate to find my professional passion early into my career and because of this I pushed myself to refine my understanding of the rehabilitative needs of cancer patients. Through my thousands of hours of one-on-one sessions, I discovered that many patients experienced layers of Physical Issues and Anxiety related to their cancer diagnosis. As an Occupational Therapist who is trained to look at roles, and participation in meaningful activities, I felt inspired to provide a more comprehensive approach to their needs. I completed Level I training of Pelvic Floor Disorders through the Herman and Wallace Pelvic Institute to deepen my understanding of the pelvic health conditions faced by my female clients. As a mother of 5 children, I understand the importance of treating these conditions in women and their impact on daily function and quality of life.
A few years ago I faced my own journey with orthopedic injuries, idiopathic illness and mental illness, and I began to look beyond traditional and toward more holistic approaches to assist me with my healing process. I developed a yoga practice to treat my orthopedic issues and realized that I needed to become a yoga instructor to fully understand and share it with my patients. I completed 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training with Experience Yoga. Around the same time, I began a meditation practice that developed into a studentship at Blue Throat Yoga and Meditation School. I fully subscribe to the belief that meditation is medicine and highly encourage it as an essential modality for optimal health.
I cannot speak about my experience as Therapist, without discussing my journey with Reiki Healing. I experienced Reiki for the first time at the urging of a dear friend and colleague, and I immediately understood that there was a connection to emotional trauma and the physical body. I completed 3 levels of Training in the Usuki Diacomio Method of Reiki with C Lynn Carr.
I am fortunate that I was able to offer Energy Healing to many clients during my treatment sessions. I found ways to incorporate energy healing and cleansing strategies such as pranayama and qigong into my treatment sessions with positive results every time. My belief is that Energy Healing cannot be separated from the healing and rehabilitative journey and my goal of this practice is to offer individuals and my community a welcoming and gentle space that promotes overall joy and wellness.
